*In 1923 George was on the footboard of a tram car selling newspapers at the corner Queens Street and Ocean Streets, Woollahra when a car collided with the tram and crushed both his legs. He subsequently lost one leg and was awarded £400 ($800) damages approximately value $23,500.00 in 2010. George was aged 13 at the time of the accident.
