The two eldest children returned to Melbourne and Annie raised the rest of the family in Kalgoorlie - thereby establishing a Western Australian branch of the Patterson/Pederson family tree.
Annie Susanna Patterson nee Watkins (b) 1878 was the daughter of Hugh Daniel Watkins and Martha Smith. Hugh died in 1884 aged 50 in Williamstown, Victoria. Hugh, Martha and baby Hugh came to Australia 1866 from Greenwich Kent, England, aboard the ship "Netherby" destined for Queensland. The ship was wrecked off King Island were they remained stranded  for approximately 10 days. Upon being rescued they (Hugh and Martha and baby Hugh) were taken to Melbourne where they stayed.
